BEKOSPLIT® separates oil/water emulsions - effectively
Splitting plants are indispensable in their main area of
application: compressed air systems. BEKOSPLIT®
splitting plants clean up emulsified condensates which occur under
unfavourable process conditions or with certain lubricant/compressor
combinations. In addition to compressed-air condensate,
BEKOSPLIT® is also suitable for
treating other oil-containing industrial wastewaters: water-insoluble
organic impurities ? oils, vegetable or animal fats ? and a large variety
of solid contaminants can all be removed. Any heavy metals, dirt or paint
particles present in the water are reliably adsorbed.
Typical applications are:
- oil-contaminated washing water, e.g., from vehicle cleaning
- leak test liquids
- bilge water

EMULSION SPLITTING PLANTS FOR THE
EFFECTIVE SEPARATION OF OIL-WATER EMULSIONS
|
Emulsions and other waste water
...are by-products that often occur in large quantities
during industrial production and processing. In other
words: they are environmentally harmful industrial
residues which must not be discharged into the sewage
network or into surface water without prior treatment.
Otherwise they would be a hazard to the ecosystem and
to human health. This type of waste must be disposed
of or treated at source according to the statutory
requirements.
|
Disposal or on-site treatment?
You
can of course have these wastes collected by a
suitable disposal company. In many cases, however, it
will be less expensive if you carry out your own
treatment on site (i.e., where the emulsion is
produced). You will therefore need a treatment system.
The following presents an optimal solution: the BEKOSPLIT®
emulsion splitting plant. |
|
Application for industrial waste
water
The effluent from many industrial
processes consists of a mixture of oil and water in
the form of a stable emulsion, in which tiny, finely
dispersed oil particles are present in the aqueous
phase. These cannot be separated solely by means of
gravity, e.g., using a low-viscosity fluid separator
or a coalescence separator. The BEKOSPLIT®
system provides a reliable means of processing
oil-contaminated, emulsified industrial effluent. By
adding a natural high-alumina mineral, water-insoluble
organic impurities – such as oils, vegetable an
animal fats and a variety of solid contaminants –
are removed from the waste water, and any existing
heavy metals, dirt or paint particles are reliably
absorbed.
|
Application for compressed-air
condensate
When air and process gases are compressed in
oil-lubricated compressors, they produce an oily
condensate. Unfavourable suction conditions, the type
of lubricating oil employed in the compressor and the
particular design of the compressor can lead to the
formation of stable emulsions. These emulsions cannot
be processed with oil-water separation systems, such
as the ÖWAMAT unit.
The BEKOSPLIT® emulsion splitting plant has
been applied hundreds of times for the successful
purification of condensate emulsions from
compressed-air systems. |

FLEXIBLE SPLITTING AND TREATING
= REUTILIZATION
Your 1st choice: BEKOSPLIT®
The
BEKOSPLIT® unit is your guarantee for the safe
and effective treatment of emulsion – be it for
small or large capacities. BEKOSPLIT® emulsion
splitting plants are available in different sizes;
they are designed for reliable and low-maintenance
operation. The independently operating splitting unit
in combination with corresponding tank components
allows you to choose the best possible configuration
for your particular application.
The purification of waste water using the BEKOSPLIT®
technique is particularly suitable for oil/water
emulsions with concentrations of emulsified oil below
1%. The BEKOSPLIT® plant permits virtually
waste-free and environmentally friendly operation,
since the material of the spent filter cake can be
reutilized.

THE BEKOSPLIT – PROCESS
The emulsions are conveyed to the
primary feed tank via the patented pressure relief
chamber (1). Here preliminary cleaning of the waste
water takes places by gravitational separation, which
permits separating the free oil parts (2), even with
fluctuating feed quantities.
The oil discharge (3) is automatic and the liquid
level states are monitored by the BEKO sensor system.
The
specially developed capacitive electronic monitoring
device is capable of distinguishing between air, oil
and emulsion. Consequently, emulsion cannot get into
the oil collector, and free oil parts cannot get into
the oil collector, and free oil parts cannot enter the
splitting process.
The waste water to be treated is pumped by a hose pump
into the reaction chamber of the splitting unit.
The subsequent waste water treatment is fully
automatic, starting with the addition of the bentonite
splitting agent. This non-toxic, but highly effective
emulsion splitting powder is stored in a metering unit
(4), which releases the exact amount of powder to be
stirred into the emulsion (5).
Splitting and separating of the emulsion are performed
in a single sequence. The separated oil and dirt
particles are encapsulated by the splitting agent and
form macroflocs that can be filtered easily. The flocs
flow through a discharge duct into the filter bags
where they are retained (6).
The purified water can then be safely discharged into
the industrial water or sewage network.
Compared with other methods, characterized by high
maintenance and high costs, the BEKOSPLIT®
system offers genuine advantages:
- easy to use
- reliable processing
- economic operation
- low maintenance

ADVANTAGES
Specially
developed concept for oil-contaminated effluent
-
Throughput of varying emulsion
quantities without special adjustment
-
Combination with effective
preseparation tank for the removal of free oils.
-
Very low splitting agent
requirements
-
The patented pressure relief
chamber ensures smooth waste water flow into the
preseparator. This facilitates the separation of
pure oil, reduces the consumption of splitting
agent, and increases the service life of the
filter.
-
Simple and reliable
measurement of cloudiness
Filtration through bag filters
-
Low water content of filter
residue due to large filter surface
-
The filter cake consists of
a compact, non-leachable residue suitable for
waste disposal
-
Low filter consumption owing
to filtration through bag filters
-
Simple, fast filter
replacement
Electronic monitoring of all
operating states
-
Microprocessor control of
sequences
-
Monitoring of splitting
agent
-
Permanent monitoring of
filters
-
Maintenance and alarm
messages can be processed externally via signal
outputs
-
The fully electronic control
and monitoring system permits largely unsupervised
operation. This saves labour costs.
Non-toxic, environmentally
compatible splitting agent
-
No protective measures
necessary for handling water-endangering
substances
-
Simple reliable metering
-
No addition of auxiliary
splitting substances required
-
The highly effective,
broad-spectrum splitting agent makes continuous
pH-value adjustment unnecessary. Chemicals are
therefore not required
-
Adsorption is also effective
for other substances contained in the waste water
(dissolved hydrocarbons, heavy metals); after
treatment of the clean water is normally not
necessary
